As far as I can tell, there is no soundtrack available for the movie Ultraviolet. And I don’t know why. I looked when the movie first aired, and I just searched again a few minutes ago. And it appears that the soundtrack simply does not exist. How can it be, that the producers of Ultraviolet have failed to capitalize on the soundtrack like this? Why, in this extremely commercial society, can I not find and purchase this item? Often times I see soundtracks for movies released before the movie itself, and yet this long after Ultraviolet came out there is still none. And I am annoyed.

I haven’t really talked about life here in California much, so hopefully this post will do something to rectify this omission.

I’m really enjoying living here. It’s certainly warmer than back home (although it’s still cold when I go home in the evenings), and although I love snow, I don’t miss snow-blowing the driveway. Work is going really well. My coworkers are great and the work itself is good (although I can’t really talk about it). I’m really enjoying having a real programming job.

Outside of work I haven’t been doing a whole lot. I finally met in person two people I’ve known online for almost two years (the lead dev of Colloquy and his wife) and we’re hanging out a lot—every weekend I’m spending at their house (it sure beats sitting on my computer all weekend) talking, playing games, and watching movies. Tristan hangs out with us sometimes as well. And the past two fridays we’ve all gone out to see a movie at the theaters (last friday was Chronicles of Narnia, and the previous friday was Aeon Flux). Both movies were excellent—I may write about them later. All in all, I’m really enjoying myself here.

I also recently set up a Flickr account (and got free Pro status as a perk of working for Yahoo!); you can view my photostream here.

The most recent bit of news is that I finally picked up Animal Crossing DS a couple days ago and it’s really fun. I’m thinking about leaving my town borders open during the day while I’m at work so people can come visit me. My friend also got it at the same time as me, so we’re playing together a bit.

If I think of anything else, I’ll post it.

Finally, I’ve managed to see Serenity. I hadn’t seen it until now because I don’t like going to the theaters by myself, and I have been restricted to public transportation ever since coming out here (which makes getting to a theater hard), but tonight I finally called up Rick and had him pick me up and bring me to a theater to see Serenity. I had to do it now because it’s no longer in theaters starting friday, and there was no way I was going to miss seeing the movie.

Anyway, it was great. All the characters from Firefly we know and love, although I wish it actually resolved the mysteries surrounding Shepherd Book, and I really wish that something else hadn’t happened (but for sake of spoilers I won’t say what). The visuals were amazing, and the character development was just as in-depth as it was in Firefly. Basically, it’s a must-see movie for any Firefly fan, and even for people who haven’t seen Firefly but simply like a good Sci-Fi movie. Unfortunately, as it’s going out of theaters, if you haven’t seen it yet you’ll probably have to wait for the DVD.

Last week my older brother came home for a few days (to attend a friend’s wedding) and finally gave me my birthday present (only almost 6 months late). It turned out to be the DVD boxed set of Firefly, a TV series created by Joss Wheadon (creator of Buffy and Angel) and basis for the movie Serenity. I’d heard great things about this series, but had never seen it.

On saturday, I ended up going to bed really early (around 7:30 PM, dunno why I was so tired) and slept for something like 14 hours). Needless to say, I wasn’t tired at all that night, so I started watching Firefly with my brother David. After 7 episodes (each one is about 45 minutes long) he went to bed, but I still wasn’t tired. I also knew that since I had work at 12:30 PM today, if I went to bed at the time I knew I would finally be able to fall asleep, I wouldn’t be able to get up for work today, so I continued watching Firefly.

I ended up watching all 14 episodes, plus most of the extra features. The entire Firefly series. In one sitting. It was fantastic. Firefly is really amazing - it is truly a great loss for everyone that Fox mismanaged the series so badly (and cancelled it). I take solace in the fact that I still have the movie Serenity to look forward to.

If you haven’t seen Firefly yet, I highly recommend seeing it as soon as possible.
